When people first learn that I’m a personal finance coach, the most common question I get is, “What should I do with my money?” While it’s a valid question, it’s actually not the right one to start with.
To me, each conversation about money is an opportunity for transformation and growth. Before we talk about what to do with your money, I’m much more interested in how you think about money.
I’m curious about your relationship with money.
The truth is, most of our financial habits are shaped by the stories and lessons we internalized growing up.
Now, don’t get mad at me, but here’s the reality: spreadsheets and budgeting apps won’t fix the deeper beliefs and untruths we’ve been taught about money.
The real answer lies in your mindset.
Here’s an exercise to get you started:
- Grab a pen, some paper, and your favorite beverage.
- Reflect on these questions:
👉 What did I learn about money from the people around me?
👉 How have these lessons shaped my current relationship with money?
This simple exercise can be the first step in understanding your financial mindset — and that’s where lasting change begins.
